In a letter addressed to Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda on Thursday, Bilimale condemned the increasing use of English on signboards, alleging systemic negligence of Kannada by government officials.

“It is regrettable that Kannada is being sidelined in favour of English on traffic signboards. Such systemic negligence is condemnable,” Bilimale wrote, urging officials to address the issue.

Bilimale’s letter demanded an investigation into the "disappearance of Kannada signboards" and recommended strict action against officials allegedly involved in, what he described as, “anti-Kannada activities”. He also proposed launching a drive to enhance Kannada usage on traffic signboards across the city.

Responding to a query from DH, Police Commissioner Dayananda countered Bilimale’s claims, stating that Kannada signboards are already present in most areas. He expressed uncertainty over what more needed to be done or investigated regarding the matter.
