Bengaluru: A 52-year-old man from Kerala was allegedly kidnapped and robbed of Rs 15 lakh by people posing as policemen, officials said.
The Byatarayanapura police have launched a manhunt following a complaint filed by the victim, Hashim K, a baker from Kannur. The incident occurred on November 29, and an FIR was registered on Saturday.
Hashim had travelled to Bengaluru to visit his son-in-law, Shammas Ahmed, a resident of Hebbal, and explore potential locations to expand his bakery business in Bengaluru. Carrying Rs 15 lakh in cash, he visited several shops before returning to Ahmed’s residence.
As per Hashim’s complaint, three men approached him as he waited to catch a bus back to Kerala near the signal at the City Market metro station around 9 pm. Claiming to be policemen, they accused him of carrying narcotics, forcibly made him sit in their car, and assaulted him.
The suspects later abandoned Hashim near an isolated spot close to NICE Road and fled with the bag containing the cash.
The police are investigating the case and working to identify the culprits.
