Bengaluru: The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has become the first airport in India to receive Level 2 Accreditation under the Airports Council International (ACI) Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) programme.
The AEA programme benchmarks and advances accessibility in aviation, assessing airports on facilities, services, governance, and continuous improvements that embed accessibility into policies and passenger experiences.
"This recognition highlights the KIA’s commitment to building a truly inclusive travel environment — where infrastructure, technology, and human touch come together to empower every traveller,” KIA said in a statement.
The KIA has set up a dedicated accessibility committee, comprising airport stakeholders, to guide initiatives that improve facilities, services, and mobility solutions for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRMs) and Persons with Disability (PWDs). Staff are trained to provide empathetic and personalised assistance, supported by ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
“We are honoured to be awarded the Level 2 Accreditation under ACI’s Airport Accessibility Enhancement programme. At KIA, accessibility is not just a measure of infrastructure, but a reflection of our belief that travel should be inclusive, seamless, and experiential for every passenger,” said Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer, Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL).
