The Innovation Centre and Department of International Studies and History, Christ College in association with Consulate General of Republic of Korea in Chennai organised a two-day fest called ‘VA Indo-Korean Utsava’ to mark the relationship between the two countries. “This festival is a follow-up celebration post the South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s visit to India early last month,” said Madhumati Deshpande, assistant professor, International Studies and History.
The first day of the festival was held on July 30, which saw an International Seminar on India-East Asia Relations, a South Korean Perspective. Subjects like Technology, Economics and Political Science were the highlights of the discussion.
“Students got a greater understanding and in-depth view of the Korean culture.
The second day, July 31, was all about celebrating the Indo-Korean culture through food, music and dance of both the countries. “We have many Korean students studying in our college who are aware of Indian food and culture. So, we thought of the idea of having a few stalls that will showcase different aspects like culture, technology, history, politics, the educational collaboration between the universities of South Korea and India and the economic boom in both the nations,” explained Madhumati.
By evening, the entire college gathered in the auditorium to witness a cultural extravaganza. From K-POP dance, Indian and Korean songs to Tae Kwon Do, Korean Folk song, chamber orchestra and fan dance, the festival was a marriage of two cultures in the true sense.
