With the multi-level station works of the Namma Metro at Majestic in full swing, more than half of the KSRTC buses originating from the City are set to operate from a new location soon. The services will operate from the space opposite Shanthala Silk House nearby.

A senior official from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said they will soon finish construction of alternative space for KSRTC buses.

“Even though it is a temporary bus station, all necessary facilities are being created and soon it will be handed over to KSRTC. The Namma Metro barricades will then cover the location where KSRTC is presently operating,” he said.

Channabasappa, Chief Manager (Marketing and Commuter Relations), KSRTC, said the number of routes and buses to be operated will be decided once the BMRCL hands over the alternative space to them. “However, the buses operating from the wing opposite the BMTC bus hub will continue to be operated from the same terminal,” he said.

A senior official with the KSRTC said more than half of the bus operations will be shifted to the now location. As of now, the KSRTC hub in Majestic accounts for around 2,500 departures every day. While the departures from Shantinagar KSRTC hub is around 600 per day, the same from Mysore Road satellite bus station is around 1,350.

Another official said the probable date of commencing operation from the new location was yet to be decided. “We will publish it through media. Disclosing the date will create confusion among the public. Also, once the Namma Metro work gets over, bus operations will resume at the earlier location,” he said.

While the Mysore Road bus station is catering to Mysore, Kodagu, Mangalore and Kerala sectors, the departures from Shantinagar station are to Chennai, Tirupati and other cities in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Most of the buses to other destinations start from Majestic terminal.
