The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will put its buses – which were set on fire during the recent protest by garment factory workers – on display in major bus stations, including Majestic in the city, for two days, starting from Tuesday, to create awareness among the public.
Managing Director of the KSRTC, Rajender Kumar Kataria, said it had become a habit for vandals to damage public properties during protests, causing a huge loss to the state exchequer. The KSRTC buses bore the brunt of mob fury in the recent protests and the transport corporation incurred a loss of Rs 10-15 crore, he said.
Several artists, including Badal Nanjundaswamy, will be roped in to give an artistic touch to the charred premium and non-premium buses which will be towed from Peenya to Majestic on Tuesday. Organising such exhibition will definitely inspire people not to vandalise buses, said Kataria.
Passengers and the bus crew will share their experience about the garment workers’ violent protest. Besides, a street play and signature campaign will be organised under the ‘It’s My Bus’ initiative of the KSRTC.
