Many parts of HSR Layout continue to be waterlogged, even a day after heavy rain in the city, on Sunday.
Low-lying pockets in sector six and seven of HSR Layout witnessed waterlogging even after it stopped raining. The roads and certain parking lots of houses were filled with water.
Residents in the area complained about the shoddy drainage work, which impedes free flow of rainwater.
“The main drains are constructed on the main roads and are at a higher altitude. The overflowing rainwater floods low-lying areas where we live,” said Meena Gupta, a resident of sector six.
She said it is a nightmare even if it rains for a few minutes. It takes at least two to three days to clear out all the water from the parking lots, Meena said.
I N Murthy, another resident, said the overflowing stormwater drains flood the houses every time it rains.
“BWSSB and the fire department came at 9 am to clear the mess, but till evening they kept complaining about the lack of amenities and delayed the work. This happens all the time,” said Murthy.
Shoddy work
The residents said they had to clear the debris from the stormwater drains at some places to stop the water from entering the houses and parking lots.
Shoddy work to fill the potholes had made things worse during the downpour as the potholes reappear, they said.
“We complained to the urban development ministry. We also posted our woes on Twitter and Facebook, only to see the reply of the authorities saying, thank you very much,” Murthy said.
The residents said, with hundreds of complaints already registered with the authorities and no action taken, they had lost faith in them.
They requested that consultants be appointed to get the work done.
