Rotary Bangalore Midtown will donate its 2,000th artificial limb on April 18 at Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital. It will be handed over by Veena Desai, wife of Bimal Desai, one of the major donors supporting this initiative. They will also donate 24 additional artificial limbs to other beneficiaries from underprivileged backgrounds on the day.
The organisation has also launched Nature for Nature, a large-scale environmental project which aims to plant up to 10,000 trees within the secured Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) campus in Yelahanka. Medicinal plants and commercially valuable sandalwood trees will be planted.
The initiative is designed to generate long-term environmental benefits. The revenue generated from commercial sale of these trees after 15 years will support natural disaster relief, CRPF welfare programs and the families of war martyrs. Rotary Bangalore Midtown will manage the plantation and its upkeep for the first 15 months, after which the CRPF will oversee its maintenance for another year to ensure the saplings are self-sufficient thereafter.
