The National Military Memorial (NMM) committee has not met for the last nine years, said Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Retired and the serving armed forces personnel and families of the martyrs are waiting for its completion but it was ignored completely, he said.

Reddy visited the NMM and inspected the premises along with Air Commodore (retired) M K Chandrasekhar.

After the inspection, Reddy said that the government has spent nearly Rs 19 crore on the project and needs an additional Rs 10 crore for its completion and Rs 5 crore for maintenance every year.

The committee should be reconstituted and once it is done, a meeting will be held with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who is also the chairman.

Tender approval for the transportation of the monolithic structure (Veera Gallu) is languishing with the government for the past six years. Work of engraving names of soldiers who have lost their lives in serving of the country since 1947 across 50 regiments on the slabs is also pending.
