The Chintamani Rural police have arrested the head of a madrasa on the chage of murdering an eight-year-old boy - five days after the gruesome incident that shook the town.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, DySP Krishnamurthy said Mohammad Usman Shariff was arrested near Hoskote for slitting the throat of Abdul Nawaz, a student at the madrasa, on August 22.

“The moulvi had a property dispute with the owner of an under-construction building in front of the madarasa. Shariff killed the boy and dumped the body in the sump of the new building, so as to give an impression that the owner had made a human sacrifice. He then went into hiding,” the officer explained.

He said that the suspect had confessed to the crime. Police have recovered the knife used in the crime and the boy’s bloodstained clothes.
