The suspect, Mohammad Hasan, 19, is the son of the couple who run the madrasa.

The incident, which took place on February 16, was captured on CCTV.

Following a complaint, the Kothanur police registered a case under Section 75 (punishment for cruelty to children) of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigations revealed that around 4.30 pm, the girl was called to the office room at the Islamic Madrasa and School for Girls, where Hasan allegedly assaulted her while others on the premises looked on. Hasan is said to have attacked the girl for allegedly spilling rice and quarrelling with others.

Further allegations suggest that he, along with other teaching staff, regularly harassed and beat female students under the pretext of discipline, forcing them to perform chores such as cooking and cleaning.

A police investigator stated that the victim had joined the madrasa, which offers residential facilities, eight months ago. Sources said the madrasa operates a hostel and is managed by a trust. Further investigation is on.
