A man accused of dowry harassment attempted to commit suicide in front of the judge in the family court on Monday.
Ramesh, a coolie and a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout, was accused of dowry harassment by his wife in 2011. Ramesh and his parents were arrested by the JP Nagar police and later released on bail.

The hearing of the case was scheduled for Monday at the fifth family court in City Civil Court Complex. As the case was being heard, Ramesh consumed poison and collapsed in the court hall.
He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.
Ramesh told Deccan Herald that his wife Shyamala and her mother were blackmailing him, saying that they would withdraw the case if he paid them Rs three lakh.
“Unable to pay the money and face humiliation, I attempted suicide,” he said. Halasur Gate Police have registered a case.
