Bengaluru: The Sanjaynagar police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a female tenant at an apartment building owned by his father.
The incident occurred around 10.30 pm on December 3 at RMV 2nd Stage, where the 26-year-old victim, Sangeeta Roy Chowdhury, resides.
The suspect, Manjunath Gowda, who is unemployed and manages his father's properties, has a prior arrest record, the police said.
According to Sangeeta, a nurse, the altercation began when she went to collect a package from the building's main gate, where Gowda and his father were present.
"Gowda, who appeared drunk, began verbally abusing me. When I ignored him, he slapped me, choked me to the point I couldn’t breathe, and pinned me against the wall. While I tried to defend myself, he bit my finger, causing an injury. He then attempted to drag me into his house, but I screamed and ran towards my flat," Sangeeta alleged in her police complaint.
She further claimed that Gowda followed her to the staircase, where he assaulted her again. "Earlier that day, he had peeped into my window and asked to come inside, which I refused. He has a history of making inappropriate advances towards me on several occasions," she added.
Meanwhile, Gowda's father, Kempegowda, the landlord, has alleged that neighbours had complained about Sangeeta’s behaviour and has vowed to file a counter-complaint against her.
