A 31-year-old man was arrested for raping his neighbour on Wednesday.

The suspect is Chandrashekhar Reddy, a worker in a tiles showroom and a resident of Manovarthi Thota, Masjid Road, Kamakshamma Layout in Yelahanka. Reddy hails from Bagepalli taluk of Chikkaballapur district, is married and has a son, police said.

The houses of Reddy and the victim are in the same lane, police said. The victim and her husband have a six-year-old daughter.

The victim had requested a neighbour, a middle-aged woman, to stay with her on Wednesday night as her husband was away. The neighbour agreed and went to the victim’s house. Late in the night, there was a knock on the door. The victim thought that someone known to the family had come and opened the door. Reddy barged inside the house and threatened to rape her. The neighbour got scared after Reddy’s threats and ran out of the house. He grabbed the opportunity and raped the woman, police said.

There was a fight between Reddy and the neighbour couple on Tuesday and Reddy had vowed to teach them a lesson, police said. Reddy and the victim were subjected to medical examination.
