A 36-year-old land developer, who was severely injured after being attacked by history sheeters five months ago, died on Tuesday night.

Sripathi was a land developer in Nelageddaranahalli in Peenya. On July 31, 2015, while returning home, he was attacked by a history sheeter, who was sentenced to life imprisonment and had come out on parole, and his aides.

According to the police, Anand alias Shivapura was serving his sentence in connection with a murder case registered in Rajagopalanagar in 2002. On July 31, he, along with eight of his associates, attacked Sripathi when he was walking home from his office.

Anand and his associates waylaid Sripathi and attacked him with machetes and fled the spot. Sripathi suffered severe head injuries.

Passersby who witnessed the incident rushed to his aid and shifted him to a nearby private hospital.

Later, he was shifted to Manipal hospital and was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), said the police.

“As they had attacked him brutally and he had suffered grievous injuries on the head, he succumbed to death. After an extensive investigation, we found that Anand had planned and executed the attack and gone back to jail. We interrogated him and based on his information, we arrested eight persons who were involved in the crime. They have been identified as Avinash, Karthik, Satish, Rahul, Manoj, Dharma, Abhilash and Sunil. Among the arrested, a few are history sheeters,” said a senior police officer.

“Anand attacked Sripathi in connection with a land dispute. Also, Anand had planned the attack while in jail and was in constant touch with his associates, who frequently visited him. A case of assault was registered at the Peenya police station and now it has been converted into a murder case,” added the officer.
