On July 11, Tejas, 24, an autorickshaw driver, visited a bar near Rudrappa Garden in western Bengaluru with his friend Santhu, the police said.

Santhu's friends also joined them at the bar, including the suspect Abhishek, a local resident working with a private firm.

Investigations revealed that after a round of drinks, a trivial argument broke out, which escalated and led Abhishek to attack Tejas with a machete.

Tejas suffered injuries on his left hand, left leg and parts of his neck.

“The victim is currently under treatment and out of danger,” a police officer said. “The suspect has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Another is at large.”

The Chamarajpet police have booked Abhishek under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is under way, the police added.
