Bengaluru: The Basaveshwara Nagar police booked a man for setting fire to actor-politician Kamal Haasan’s photograph on May 28.

The incident occurred after the actor made controversial remarks about the Kannada Language.

Officials said that beat policemen saw the man near Pavitra Paradise Circle in west Bengaluru after receiving information about him at 11.45 pm. The police found that the suspect had lit fire to Haasan’s photograph, created public nuisance and obstructed traffic flow.

Policemen surrounded the suspect. When questioned, he identified himself as Ravikumar, 33, a member of Namma Karunada Yuva Sene, and a resident of Sanegoravanahalli.

The Basaveshwara Nagar police opened a case under sections 270 (public nuisance) and 283 (exhibition of false light, mark or buoy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
