The police have arrested three people of a family on the charge of assaulting and abusing BDA secretary Basavaraju.

The arrested are Raju, a retired government employee, his son Shashi and daughter Rani, all residents of Anepalya. Later, the suspects were granted bail, the police said.

On Friday afternoon, the trio had gone to the BDA office to get the update on allotment of a site. They met Basavaraju and wanted to know the reason for delay in the allotment of a site at 17th block in Arkavathi Layout. During the conversation, they lost their cool and abused Basavaraju, who retaliated. The trio reportedly manhandled the officer and abused him and also the staff who intervened, said the police.

On being alerted, BDA Task Force sleuths rushed to the office, detained the three and handed them over to the jurisdictional Sheshadripuram police. The three have been booked under IPC Section 353 (deterring public servant from discharge of his duty).
