Bengaluru: Police on Sunday arrested a man who claimed to be a local JD(S) leader in western Bengaluru’s Jnanabharathi for picking a fight with traffic police.
Naveen Gowda, a resident of Jnanabharathi, was booked under BNS Section 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty), based on a complaint filed by Kumar C, a traffic police sub-inspector.
According to the FIR, the incident took place near the SBI Bank on Ullal Main Road at around 11:50 am on Saturday when police were managing traffic and catching traffic offenders.
Kumar said they intercepted Gowda, who was riding a scooter (KA 41 EK 6731) towards Amma Ashram from the Ullal side, for not wearing a helmet. He allegedly refused to pay the fine.
“Gowda said he wouldn’t wear a helmet, nor would he pay the fine, and asked me to call anyone. He claimed that he intentionally didn’t wear a helmet after he saw us catching violators,” Kumar said in his complaint.
Gowda allegedly claimed that he was the JD(S) block leader of Jnanabharathi and forcefully took away his scooter from the spot. Later, Kumar filed a complaint leading to Gowda’s arrest.
