A man committed suicide by hanging himself from a traffic signage board pole near Renuka Parameshwara Temple in Shivajinagar in the wee hours on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Srinivas, 50, was a Tempo Traveller driver.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Srinivas may have ended his life due to financial difficulties, the police said.
Srinivas had taken to drinking and was living the life of a vagabond. He had health issues and had borrowed heavily from various sources, but was unable to repay the loans, the police said. He used a rope and hanged himself from the pole at around 1.30 am.
The incident came to light early Saturday morning when his friend Mahendra spotted the body. He alerted the victim’s relative Karthik who informed the police.
The jurisdictional Commercial Street police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for postmortem.
