A 40-year-old man, who allegedly raped the nine-year-old daughter of his co-worker at Sampigehalli on Wednesday night, has been arrested by the police.

Lakshman, a native of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh and resident of Hegde Nagar Main Road, went to the house of his co-worker Priyanka (name changed) when she had gone out to buy groceries, around 8.15 pm. She lived next to his shanty.

He lured her daughter who was alone at the house, raped her and disappeared before Priyanka returned. The victim complained of severe pain in the abdomen when her mother came back. Priyanka also found bloodstains on her daughter’s private parts. When she asked her about them, the victim narrated the ordeal. Priyanka then raised a storm and complained to the neighbours who beat Lakshman before handing him over to the police.

Lakshman had arrived in the City recently and was working at a saw mill on Hegde Nagar Main Road. His wife and six-year-old daughter live in his hometown. He was provided with a shed at the work place.

Priyanka, who hails from Sikkim, was employed at the saw mill. The victim was subjected to medical examination at Bowring Hospital, police added.
