Bengaluru: A private firm employee was killed in a road crash on the double-deck flyover near BTM Layout, South Bengaluru, in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.
Twenty-seven-year-old Srinivas, a resident of JP Nagar, was killed after he rode his bike against the one-way lane on the flyover and crashed into two cabs that were going towards Silk Board Junction. His friend and colleague, Vijay Das Reddy (27), was injured.
The duo was reportedly returning from an office party, according to the Madiwala traffic police, when the crash occurred around 1.40 am near the Kuvempunagar bus stand. Although both of them were rushed to a nearby hospital, Srinivas was declared dead at 3.50 am, the police added.
"We have booked Srinivas and his friend Vijay in the case as prima facie, their rash and negligent driving caused the accident. We are yet to ascertain if he was under the influence of alcohol,” said an officer from the Madiwala traffic police station.
Not too long after this crash, another road crash was reported on the BGS (Sirsi) flyover in the western part of the city. KR Market traffic police suspect the crash occurred between 2 am and 3 am but haven't ascertained the facts of the matter as the CCTV footage of the crash scene was not available on Wednesday.
Pantarapalya resident Chandra Raj (37), who was riding a two-wheeler towards his home, was killed. The complaint registered by his wife notes that it is unclear if it was an accident caused by himself or a crash involving another vehicle.
"We will have more clarity about the details on Thursday after we obtain the CCTV footage and examine it. The operator was not available on Wednesday, due to it being a government holiday,” said a police officer.
