The city police arrested a 37-year-old man for murdering his wife for not accompanying him to his native place, in the wee hours of Monday. The victim Vanishree (26) was a tailor and a resident of Ittamadu, the police said. Her husband Gajendra was employed in a hotel in Chennammanakere Achkat and the couple lived in a rented house with their two children, the police added.

According to police, the murder happened between 3 and 4 am. Gajendra, who was at home with his wife smothered her to death while Vanishree’s family members who heard her screams, helplessly waited outside and informed the police. After a quarrel with his wife, Gajendra had taken his two children to his parents’ house in Chittoor three months ago. Fearing the crowd that gathered outside, Gajendra locked the house and opened it only after the police arrived. Chennammanakere Achkat police have registered a case of murder.
