According to police, Bijoy Samuel (29), an executive in IBM on Intermediate Ring Road, first strangulated Rajani Rajan, his wife of just a week, with a cloth and later attempted to end his life by slitting his veins at their house in Muthyala Nagar between 7 30 am and 9 30 am. The incident came to light when Samuel's elder brother, Ajay, came to the couple's house around 9 30 am for inviting them to an event at his residence.

According to police, the couple had an arranged marriage in Bhopal on April 23. The couple's alliance struck after Samuel placed a matrimonial advertisement in a newspaper.

There was no trouble when the relationship was fixed and both the families were happy, police said. Rajani who worked as an H R manager with a private company in C V Nagar, however, strongly disliked the relationship and opposed it vehemently.

The newly-wed couple was engrossed in bitter altercation right from the first day of their unhappy alliance. According to police, Rajani would frequently ridicule Samuel over his appearance.

They arrived in the City from Kerala around 7.30 am on Friday. Upon reaching the house, they allegedly started quarrelling.

An enraged Samuel then suddenly took out a cloth and strangulated Rajani to death by tying it tightly around her neck. Later, he attempted to kill himself by slitting his veins. His brother's timely arrival, however, prevented him from succeeding in his pursuit. A bleeding Samuel was immediately rushed to the Baptist Hospital. Later, the police arrested him after his condition improved.

The body was taken to Kerala after a post mortem at Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital. R T Nagar police have registered a case.
