Prakyath used to mimic women in the company of his friends. It later became a full-time vocation to lure people, with the help of voice-morphing apps.

Prakyath alias Vinaya is unemployed. A native of Sira Gate in Tumakuru, he used to create fake accounts of women on Facebook, under such names as Vinutha S and Vejeetha, with attractive profile photographs downloaded from the internet. He would then send friend request to people -- mostly men. Whoever accepts his friend requests, he would chat with them, eventually accessing their phone numbers. Then he would engage in private conversations with them in a female voice through voice-morphing apps.

Prakyath would also send nude photographs and record his private chats with the victims further on. Later, he recorded conversations to blackmail the victims. He would demand money saying he would upload the conversation and photographs in the social media or send it to their families. He received Rs 2 lakh from a man who went to the police.
