The suspect has been identified as Infant Raj, a resident of Venkateshwara Layout near Madiwala. Raj allegedly smashed Martin Simon’s head with a hollow brick during a drunken altercation on Friday night.

According to the police, Raj and Simon lived in the same building, on the ground and second floors respectively, along with their families. While Simon had moved into the building about one and a half years ago, Raj had been living there for nine years. The two had developed a close friendship and often partied together.

A senior officer told DH that the duo had been drinking on the terrace of the building before the incident occurred. A petty argument broke out, escalated quickly, and ended in Simon’s murder.

Police have registered a case of murder against Raj and taken him into custody.
