Roiled by hearsay that his wife Sudharani, 28, was having an illicit affair, the husband, Manjunath, 33, a mobile phone repair shop owner, stabbed her to death near their home on Venkateshwara Tent Road in KR Puram area on Friday.

The couple’s squabble worsened after the suspect’s close friend Raju’s wife informed him that his wife had an affair with her husband.

The family members from both sides amicably resolved the matter. But while the pacified couple were returning home, Manjunath stabbed Sudharani in the back, as they reached their house’s doorstep. A profusely bleeding Sudharani, whose screams drew passersby, was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Manjunath, who was trying to run away, was caught by passersby who later handed him over to the police. He was later arrested.

A case has been registered and investigation is on. The police are trying to trace the woman to ascertain the truth. Raju was working as a driver for Manjunath’s car, which he had rented for travels. Manjunath and Raju were close friends but had fought over some issue recently, the police said.
