Bengaluru: Hebbagodi police have arrested a man who allegedly stole jewellery worth Rs 47 lakh and gave part of it to his girlfriend, police said on Saturday. The arrested is Shreyas, 27.
According to the police, on September 14, when the complainant was away, the suspect had broken into the house and fled with the stolen valuables. Following investigations, Shreyas was arrested at his house in Gattihalli.
During the interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had pawned the gold and kept the cash at a finance company and a bank and gave part of it to his girlfriend in Bannerghatta.
The police subsequently recovered 416 grams of jewellery and Rs 3.46 lakh cash. The suspect has been remanded in judicial custody.
“The suspect was related to the aged victim and then misguided her by telling her to approach the police. He also created false CCTV evidence and pre-planned it to mislead the police,” a senior police officer said.
