Bengaluru: After battling for his life for five days in the ICU, Akshay Shivaram, a resident of Srinivasa Nagar, died on Thursday afternoon.
The 29-year-old HR executive had suffered severe injuries to his skull and brain last Sunday after a tree branch fell on his head, while he was riding his scooter on 16th Main Road near the Brahma Chaitanya Temple.
An MBA graduate from Bangalore University, Shivaram was returning home for lunch when the tragic incident occurred. Local residents rushed him to a private hospital, and he was immediately shifted to a multi-specialty facility due to the seriousness of his injuries. At the time of the accident, Akshay was not wearing a helmet.
The incident has also brought attention to the condition of trees in Bengaluru. As trees are often not pruned ahead of the monsoon, rains frequently cause branches or entire trees to fall, leading to damage to life and property.
As Akshay's death has come as a shock, the BBMP was quick to cover the full medical expenses, which have amounted to approximately Rs 4 lakh. The civic body has also announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to his family.
