Bengaluru: The BBMP has banned the slaughter and sale of meat in Bengaluru on January 30 for Sarvodaya Day (Martyrs' Day).
The meat ban applies to all locations under the BBMP limits.
The civic body issued the order on Tuesday. Such orders are, however, not followed on the ground owing to lack of awareness.
BBMP data shows that the city has nearly 3,000 licensed meat shops and three authorised slaughterhouses. However, the figures are unlikely to match with the ground realities as illegal shops also function in the city.
