The Union Minister was addressing a gathering at the NMKRV College on Saturday during a national seminar on the topic ‘Changing Trends in News Presentation in Media’.
Media organisations are running after sensational and spicy news stories only to increase the circulation of newspapers and TRPs in case of news channels. But such a focus on the sensational is killing ethics in journalism, Purandeshwari said.
Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev said journalists should verify the truth of the information they gather and not publish hearsay.
