A nine-year-old mentally challenged girl, who was allegedly raped at the Vishwa Vijetha Residential School for mentally challenged in Raibagh, Belgaum, was admitted to the KC General Hospital in Bangalore on Thursday.

Upon medical examination of the victim, doctors confirmed that she had been raped and informed her parents, who lodged a complaint at the Malleswaram police station.

According to the police, the victim’s parents had admitted her to the residential school in Raibagh two months ago. On August 19, the principal called the victim’s parents and informed them that she was not keeping well. Later, the parents went to the school and took her to a nearby hospital. But her health condition did not improve and she was admitted to the KC General hospital.

“The police authorities are investigating the case and are yet to find out when the incident had taken place. We are also speaking to other students from the school to check if they were sexually abused,” a senior official said.
