Fortunately, nobody was injured. Officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), later denied that the collapse was an accident and said the huge hydraulic rig is stationed in the area for the last seven days, after its engine failed. “The rig was undertaking earth excavation for construction of the M G Road station of the project, when it collapsed at 4 am. It was put back and re-erected, with the help of smaller cranes at 3.45 pm in the afternoon,” said B L Yashavanth Chavan,  BMRCL spokesperson.

Engineers involved in the project said the damp earth was the result for the earth caving in, even as piling work was in progress. BMRCL director (projects and planning), Sudhir Chandra visited the spot for an on-site inspection.
