Government felicitates city-based activist

Acid attack survivor, activist and founder of the Atijeevan Foundation Pragya Singh was recently awarded the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ for women development by the Government of India.

“It was a surprise for me. It is a great recognition as a lot of people are more aware of my work,” says Pragya.

She is thrilled to have gotten a chance to speak about her work on a national platform as a lot more victims have been approaching the social worker since her felicitation.

“Now that a lot of people are contacting me, I will have to expand my organisation. It is a huge responsibility and, I will try my best to help and reach out to more patients,” she asserts.

More respect, Pragya says, is what she has received out of this.

“Being recognised by the government has made people know that I am doing the right thing,” she signs off.
