A metro train came to a halt at a curve near the Rajajinagar station on Green Line (Nagasandra-Yelachenahalli) on Sunday morning, delaying the journey of commuters by about 10 minutes.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said the train was moving from Rajajinagar towards Kuvempu Road in northern Bengaluru when its operator saw a technical fault and applied brakes.

“As a matter of abundant caution, the locopilot stopped the train and got down to inform the station controller. The station controller examined and found that the there was no technical issue and hence advised the loco pilot to proceed. The train then proceeded. In the process, there was a delay of 10 minutes,” BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer U A Vasanth Rao said.

'Emergency Response Team to blame'

BMRCL Employees’ Union vice-president Suryanarayana Murthy, however, alleged the fault occurred because the management chose to deploy a member of the emergency response team (ERT) instead of the regular train operators.

“There are 320 train operators in the BMRCL but the management is still training ERT members, who are not qualified for the job and can’t assure safe service to commuters.
If regular train operators (employees) cross red light while stopping the train at the station, their increment is cut. Will any action be taken against the ERT staffer,” he asked.
