A minor explosion took place near the Coconut Grove restaurant at Church Street in Bangalore on Sunday around 8:30 pm. One woman was killed and another injured in the blast.

Improvised explosive device was used to trigger the blast, Police chief MN Reddi told reporters at the spot.

The police team across the city have been mobilized, including forensic team for assistance, he added. 

The police have cordoned off and combng the area for evidence. Forensic team is at the spot. 

Union Minister Sadananda Gowda has arrived at Church Street to take the stock of the situation. He has been briefed by police officers in-charge at the spot about the blast.

Meanwhile, the police have detained two for questioning about the blast. 

Reddi said no one has claimed responsibility for the blast.

"There has been threat perception in general, in view of the fact that there are festivities, in view of the fact that New Year's eve coming..." he added.

He said there has been "some amount" of threat perception but that has been generic and there has been an alert in general.
