A 33-year-old man was found dead in a pond on the premises of the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) near KR Puram on Thursday noon.
The deceased is identified as Umashankar, a native of Ballari. He lived with his wife and worked for a well-known software company.
On Wednesday afternoon, a few passersby found a hand popping out of the water. They also noticed a helmet floating nearby. They informed the KR Puram police who came to the spot and fished out the body. A missing complaint had been filed at the police station on May 21, that Umashankar had gone missing. Family members identified Umashankar’s body, said the police.
“We later found his bike inside the water. A colleague of Umashankar’s said that on May 20, they had celebrated a friend’s birthday in Mahadevapura. Umashankar had consumed liquor and was not in a position to ride the bike. They asked him to take a cab home, but he refused and left on his bike. As he reached the pond, he lost control over the vehicle and fell into it. He was not in a condition to swim and drowned. There was no proper fencing around the pond. The body was sent for post-mortem,” police said. A case has been registered at the KR Puram police station.
