Bengaluru: Eight MLAs and MPs, who are alumni of Christ University, were honoured on Saturday for their contributions to public service.
This included Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murthy, MP Francis George, Chandy Oommen, M Mallesh Babu and Sagar Eshwar Khandre. Minister Gowda reminisced the impact the University had on his life, and in the lives of leaders that continue to be shaped by the institution. “We need our universities to produce thought leaders, not machines,” he said.
Sudha Murthy, who is a former faculty at Christ University, said, “Many people ask me, out of a teacher, Narayan Murthy’s wife, a social worker, etc which role was your favourite? I say teacher.”
Francis George urged the students to carry the torch of the university forebearers and to continue the legacy of the university, while Mallesh Babu recollected the friendships formed from his college days and how they supported him through hardships.
Shilpi Neha Titkey, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Jharkhand, expressed gratitude for Christ University’s role in shaping her life while MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayana credited Christ University for the discipline that aided him in furthering his career.
