Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met DMK president M Karunanidhi at his residence and enquired about his health.

Interestingly, there was no mention in prime minister's official schedule that Modi would meet the DMK strongman.

After participating in the 75th anniversary of Tamil newspaper Daily Thanthi, Modi arrived at Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram residence by around noon.

Modi was accompanied by DMK working president and Karunanidhi's younger son M K Stalin, Karunanidhi's daughter and MP Kanimozhi and other party leaders.

The prime minister sat next to 94-year-old DMK leader and enquired about his health holding his hands.

Terming the meeting as a courtesy call, Kanimozhi told a private TV channel that Modi invited Karunanidhi to New Delhi to take rest.
