A youth who modified his motorcycle to do wheelies was arrested in eastern Bengaluru on Saturday for endangering his safety and that of other road users.
The KG Halli police who made the arrest identified him as Arbaaz Khan.
R Hithendra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), expressed concern at the rise in the number of youths doing wheelies this year compared with 2017. He, however, vowed the police would not let the bikers imperil the lives of other road users. Special police teams are cracking down on such riders. As many as 161 of them were arrested this year and 160 motorcycles seized, Hithendra added.
Eastern Bengaluru alone accounted for 47 cases as police swung into action after seeing social media posts.
Hithendra said police would soon hold conduct awareness programmes in schools and colleges about the dangers of wheelies and other bike stunts.
