Bengaluru: A little more than 200 acres of government property that was encroached upon across Bengaluru Urban have been successfully recovered by the district administration, confirmed Deputy Commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha on
Monday.

“If one goes only by the guidance value, the recovered properties, cumulatively, could be estimated to be worth around Rs 674 crore. But their market value is likely to be in excess of Rs 5,000 crore,” said Jagadeesha, adding that encroachments had been cleared across various parts of the city.

In fact, some parcels of the encroached land had been transformed into private residential layouts, besides being used for construction of apartment complexes, said the DC. “We have even cleared encroachments along lakes,” said Jagadeesha.

He was quick to clarify that the district administration had not, however, initiated action against farmers who had encroached government land. “The state is yet to take a final decision on this issue,” Jagadeesha added.

Meanwhile, a few individuals, from whom land was recovered, have secured a stay from the court. Jagadeesha, however, said that the district administration had all the necessary documents to substantiate the government’s claims of ownership over the property in question.
