Bengaluru: Heavy rains have worsened Bengaluru’s roads, leaving motorists distressed and triggering a flood of complaints online.
On Thursday, netizens shared images of slushy, potholed roads across the city.
In Whitefield and surrounding areas, residents say the roads have become unsafe.
Prasad S, a Channasandra resident, told DH that tar had peeled off the road from Channasandra to Hope Farm after just one downpour. “I travel daily to Hennur for work. The 28-km Channasandra-Hopefarm stretch is the worst — full of potholes, many hidden by water. I have seen several bikers fall. Now, chunks of tar are coming off, too,” he said.
Roads in Varthur are in a similar state.
Photos of the Panathur-Gunjur Road covered in thick mud and sludge also surfaced on social media.
An X user (@anshunshm) posted on Wednesday: “I narrowly escaped skidding in thick mud on Panathur-Gunjur Road. Thousands face this danger daily. Years of complaints — zero action! Is anyone even listening?”
Felicia Felix, a Kodigehalli resident, said that roadwork on Sahakarnagar Main Road had created potholes that become invisible in the rain. "Slush builds up, causing two-wheelers to skid,” she added.
In Yelahanka New Town, ongoing metro work has made roads muddy and slippery, especially during the rain.
A resident said, “The junction is already congested. When it rains, it becomes risky for two-wheelers.”
Commuters in Hennur and Horamavu also complained about deepening potholes.
"I almost fell off my bike and could have gone under a bus had I not swerved. Riding in Bengaluru is like dodging death traps,” said Santosh Nadig, a resident of Horamavu Main Road.
