The city’s mounted police now sport a smart new look, giving up their regular khaki uniform. They will be seen in a black polo T-shirt with the logo of the Bengaluru city police embroidered into it, with a matching cap and a pair of white trousers.

The new uniform gives the mounted police personnel better visibility.

“Riders will feel comfortable in the new uniform. They will also be given reflective jackets for smooth movement of the horses through traffic on Commercial Street and Brigade Road,” D Kishore Babu, deputy commissioner of police, City Armed Reserve (headquarters), told DH.

CAR has just five horses in its stable and there are plans to increase it to 12. “We are going to expand horse patrolling in the city,” he said.

The five-member mounted patrol squad is deployed on Commercial Street on Tuesdays and on Brigade Road on Thursdays. They can be spotted in Cubbon Park on Saturdays and Sundays. The horse-mounted police are used for crowd control in these areas.
