The Dry Waste Collection Centre (DWCC) at Freedom Park wore a vibrant look on Tuesday.
A mural created by Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology (SSADT) during the recently concluded week-long expo on garbage management, ‘Wake up, Clean up Bengaluru’ event was unveiled by environmentalist A N Yellappa Reddy, waste management expert N S Ramakanth and other dignitaries.
The mural designed by around 22 students measures 28 ft by 8 ft and depicts both old and new ways of dealing with waste (dumping of mixed garbage vs recycling of dry garbage), effects of debris-filled plastic covers on cows and waste segregation.
Taking ownership
“The mural encourages citizens to take ownership of their waste and support efforts to process it in a sustainable way, within their own neighbourhoods.
We had created three murals during the campaign. The murals are made of compact wood. Organic paints and waste such as newspapers, plastic bottles, keyboards and other scrap items are used,” said Arzu Mistry, art faculty from SSADT.
Two more murals would be installed at DWCC of Anandnagar and Yelahanka.
