Bengaluru: The 10th edition of 'Tulu Parba', a celebration of Tulu Nadu's culture, folk traditions and cuisine, was held in the city on Sunday.
Hosted at Bunts' Sangha Hall in Vijayanagar, the event brought together businessmen, industrialists, educationists, artists and professionals from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to showcase the heritage of the Tulu-speaking community.
The day-long programme featured folk performances, traditional food of Coastal Karnataka, and the popular Tulu drama, Paramathme Panjurli.
The event aimed to introduce the culture, cuisine, and practices of Tulu Nadu to the younger generation.
Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, music director Gurukiran Shetty and educationist Soundarya P Manjappa were among the notable attendees. Celebrity chef Sona Ganesh Nayak was felicitated for his contribution to the Tulu and Konkani communities.
Speakers at the event urged that Dakshina Kannada district be renamed as Mangaluru district, to reinforce cultural identity.
Besides folk music and dance, the event treated the community to a spread of signature coastal dishes such as neer dosa with chutney, pathrode, pundi, Mangalorean fish curry, and jackfruit payasam.
