Mylarappa says he is no hurdle to BSE

The Registrar (Administration) of Bangalore University, B C Mylarappa, has refuted the allegation that he was coming in the way of the proposed Bangalore School of Economics (BSE).

Mylarappa said that he welcomed the establishment of BSE without any reservation whatsoever. “I never alleged that the Jindal Group was buying BU land for a song. When I do not know anything about the project, how can I make such an allegation? I put on record that I never spoke anything against the BSE in the media or elsewhere,” Mylarappa told Deccan Herald.

Mylarappa, however, said that he favoured the establishment of BSE outside BU. “Hardly any land is left in the university. If 50 acres are given to BSE, what will remain in BU,” he asked. He said that he immediately signed the notification on establishment of BSE when the file came to him on November 16, 2011. “As Registrar, I have an open mind on the issue. I totally deny any differences with the Vice-Chancellor on any issue,” he said.

Mylarappa said that he was hurt by the haste with which the Jindal Group issued the rebuttal on Tuesday. “If any one had spoken to me, the issue could have been sorted out.”

The Registrar, however, complained that the V-C did not take him and many other university officials into confidence on the establishment of BSE.

Mylarappa said that somebody had “misled” the Jindal Group about him. He was also unhappy with the V-C soliciting public opinion on BSE on his personal e-mail ID. “Hasn’t the university got its own website and e-mail ID? The varsity is a public institution and only public platform should be used for disseminating information about it.”
