Sweltering month

March 2019 has not been kind to the city, with the temperature crossing 34 degrees on March 4 and continuing to rise throughout the month.

Except four days, the city saw maximum average temperature of 36 and 37 degrees. The highest temperature was recorded on March 7 when the city saw 37.9 degrees - the highest in the last 88 years. According to IMD data, the previous highest was on March 30, 1931, when the city had recorded a maximum of 37.8 degrees.

On Sunday (March 31), the city recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees and minimum of 22 degrees. If it doesn’t rain in the next few days, the temperature is expected to climb, said officials.

Forecast

Weather experts cited lack of rainfall in the city and adjoining regions, clear sky among other reasons for the spike in the temperature.
The city has not received major showers since February 10, when there was light rain.

According to IMD, no rainfall is predicted for another week.
