On World Forest Day on Sunday, the BBMP and civic activists embarked on a campaign to remove nails driven into trees in the city.

BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad, ADGP Bhaskar Rao (Internal Security Division) and volunteers from ‘Bengaluru Hudugaru’ took out a rally from MG Road to the Dr Rajkumar Glass House in the BBMP to spread awareness on the need to protect trees.

While officials called for an end to nailing posters to the trees, children who participated dressed up like trees and plants to spread awareness.

“No campaign or initiative will be successful in a city without the involvement of the citizens. We must all come together to make trees in Bengaluru free from nails,” Prasad said at the event.

Rao said citizens actively involving themselves to save trees is a good sign.

“The Bengaluru police department is also ready to support the initiative.

“The department has already filed FIRs against people who harm trees, and we will continue the protocol,” he said.
