Bengaluru: The National Lok Adalat disposed of 58,67,432 cases on July 12, including 3,11,177 pending and 55,56,255 pre-litigation cases.
Justice V Kameshwar Rao, acting Chief Justice and Executive Chairman of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA), said that Rs 2,878 crore was settled as compensation and relief. The next Lok Adalat is on September 13.
"The success story of this Lok Adalat is the settlement of 2,689 old cases," Justice Rao said. Of these, 2,377 were pending for five years, 275 for over 10 years, and 37 for the last 15 years.
According to the KSLSA, 611 cases were settled at the high court’s principal bench in Bengaluru, 275 at the Dharwad bench, and 296 at the Kalaburagi bench.
A total of 1,756 matrimonial cases, including those under CrPC Section 125 and the Domestic Violence Act, were resolved, with 331 couples reunited through conciliation.
Also, 4,015 partition suits and 4,961 motor vehicle cases were settled, with Rs 290 crore awarded as compensation. Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 13,542 cases were disposed of, with Rs 572 crore settled.
