Negligence caused mock drill tragedy: Probe report

Negligence and dereliction of duty caused the death of a young welfare officer during a mock drill at a factory in the City recently, according to the probe report submitted to the Fire Department.

Varadarajan, chief Fire Officer, Mangalore, who was appointed to look into the accident, has submitted the report to A R Infant, Director General of Police and Director General of Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services.

“We are studying the report and finalising action against those responsible for the incident. The report points fingers at a few officers and indicates they were guilty and there was dereliction on their part,” Infant told Deccan Herald. Nalini, welfare officer at the Bombay Rayon Fashions, was killed when the rope used in the mock drill snapped on February 24.

Electronic goods gutted

Electronic goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in fire at an electronic showroom on Nagarbhavi Main Road on Friday. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot and put out the fire at Giriyas showroom.

The accident occurred around 8.15 pm. Cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained.
